How to Use Record Payments inside the Openroom Rental Debt Ledger System

 Who can use this feature
→ Anyone using Openroom’s Rental Debt Ledger product. More specifically, as a Tenant whose Landlord claims they owe rent.

Subscription Plans
→ Anyone on the Openroom Community plan
→ Anyone on the Openroom Plus plan

A Landlord’s Responsibility for Accuracy

Openroom relies on the Landlord to record payments made by their Tenants so that on the 15th of each month, Openroom reports the accurate balance outstanding on the Rental Debt to Equifax.

A Tenant's Responsibility for Accuracy

When a Tenant files a dispute to Openroom regarding the balance outstanding, they need to provide evidence of the claim. When there is evidence provided, Openroom proceeds to PAUSE the record to be sent to Equifax.

Steps to Record a Rental Payment

It’s easy and NECESSARY to ensure you record payments because the right amount needs to reflect on a Debtor’s credit history. It’s not fair to the Debtor when an amount is inaccurate.

Step 1 - Head into the Rental Debt Ledger dashboard

To access the Dashboard, click https://openroom.ca/dashboard/rental-debt

Step 2 - Click on Transactions

Inside the Dashboard, you’ll see Transactions on the horizontal navigation tab

Step 3 - Click on Add payments

Find the purple button on the right side. It will open up the Add payments screen.

Step 4 - Add the dates and amounts of the payments made

You can add multiple payments in one go or a single one. Make sure to add the right date in the format of YEAR MONTH DAY (YYYY-MM-DD).

Step 5 - Select who it was Paid By

You’ll see all of the tenant(s) to choose from in the screen when you open up the drop down menu for Paid by.

Step 6 - Click Submit

You’ll see the payment transaction(s) you added be reflected on the Transactions page.
